The question and idea to change the program had to do with a user wanting to turn off the alarm music when playing.
I have an exteranl solution that may even fix your other problems dealing with mp3 and wav conversions and such
I set the alarm to play a music file using winamp
then you can stop winamp playing anytime
here is a sample command line
"C:Program FilesWinampWinamp.exe" C:woutyou.mp3
The 1st part starts the winamp program the second lists the song file to play
It did seem to have a problem with spaces in the name of the song so I had to rename it and I put it in the c: directry for testing

If you don't want to change your file name, you can put the file name in quotes too...mine read like this and worked:

"C:Program FilesWinampwinamp.exe" "F:MusicLee GreenwoodGod Bless the USA.mp3"

Or incorporate fmod as a free media player alternative.
I've used it twice in my programs and it works like a charm.

I am wondering how come just launching a .mp3 file doesn't automatically load up winamp with the file? In windows clicking an mp3 file loads it with the appropriate file, how come not here? Also I am guessing same goes with .txt files then and all other files that are opened using another program. If this program only fixed that I would have to give this a 9.5 out of 10, 10 for 10 if the required registration was removed or at least allowing more than just 1 alarm, maybe 3 would be sufficient.

The next version of Kirby Alarm will allow you to play just about any sound format (including mp3)

If you are interested in looking at it you can download it from http://www.kirbyfooty.com/kirbyalarmbeta.zip

To install it just do the following...
(1) Exit kirby alarm. To exit kirby alarm just right click on the icon (the small brown football next to your clock), then select exit.
(2) Download the new version.
(3) Once downloaded unzip the contents of the file into the SAME program directory as version 2.1 is installed. (remember to exit Kirby Alarm BEFORE overwriting the existing file otherwise the file will be in use and windows will prevent you from overriding it)
(4) Restart kirby alarm.
The changes made so far in the new version are..
Ability to play MP3's, WMA, MID sound files etc
Ability to pop up more than one note
Ability to set the font, size, colour, alignment (ie rich text editing) in the pop up notes.
    Automatic purging of old alarms
Allow up to 10 alarms if unregistered (was previously only 2)
Allow the spin boxes for the hours/minutes to loop (ie when you get to 59 minutes automatically lop back to 0 minutes and vice versa)
Ability to stop a sound file playing
Increase length of program string from 100 to 255 characters
New field to enter the command line parameters for a program (up to 255 characters)
Ability to have a quick alarm button (ie press a button on the main screen to create an alarm to occur in 'x' minutes)
Ability to stop all alarms for 'x' minutes
Ability to set the number of times to play a sound file
Ability to automatically snooze a pop up note alarm
Show the next alarm date & time in the tray icon tooltip
    Enhanced snooze function
Stop changing of windows setting for "Drag Full Windows"
Do not prevent further alarms if pop up note displayed.
New option in preferences screen to automatically purge completed alarms.
New option in preferences screen to set the default sound directory
Fix problem when copying an alarm regarding days of week etc.
New option in right click menu to test the alarm[/list:u]
