New Windows 8 computer...how to copy alarms from old computer

Ok, have searched this forum to find a step by step solution to this issue and seem to be coming up blank, probably because I am not as computer savvy as I should be.

I have recently purchased a new computer running Windows 8, my old computer was running windows xp and I had the free version of Kirby Alarm on it for several years. I tried to install the free version of KA on my new computer but could not get it to open after install, so I decided to go ahead with the trial version of KA Pro and then purchase it after the 30 days. I was able to install it but was not able to copy my alarms from my old computer to the new one. After about an hour of messing with it I decided to just uninstall it completely and start over.
Can someone please give me some advice on how to move my alarms once I install KA Pro again, understanding that I am not a computer wiz. Also, once I install KA Pro, do I need to update to 5.1? Any help will be appreciated.

Vista and Windows 7 create a separate "program files" folder for each user which really complicates things.
So your files would be in something like C:\Users\<my user profile>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\kapro
Windows 8 would be the same.

This is different to windows xp. Windows XP only has one program files folder.

In my opinion it is MUCH easier to install KA into c:\kirby alarm pro.
That makes the files very easy to find the correct folder.

Once KA is installed you can then copy (or import) the old alarms depending upon which version the old alarms are in.

If the old alarms are in the old free version of KA then you must use the import function.
Do this my selecting Tools/Import/Import From Free Version.

If the old alarms in the ka pro version 4.45 then you can just copy the data files.
- Exit KA
- Copy the alarms.tps file into the ka folder.
- Restart KA

You do not really need to upgrade to v5.01 unless you need some of the new features or bug fixes.
