Hi Ian,

In KA itself, I can use French characters without problem however, I often use KA to send mail reminders to colleagues and was not aware until today that KA is unable to send mail with foreign chars. Is there any way you can get it to respect Windows 1252 (Western European) and/or Unicode UTF-8?

Also, when typing in a message, if I place anything in brackets the closing bracket makes KA go crazy. It places loads of spaces between the final word and itself. Ditto for the period (full stop) coming after the close bracket. Can you test this on your copy please and see if it does the same.

Hi Alessia
I tested both of the things you mentioned, and they both worked ok.

For the brackets I tested square brackets, curly brackets, and round brackets.
For the foreign characters I test several different random characters.

Attached are some screen shots of the alarm in kirby alarm, and the resulting email.

I am using v4.48 of Kirby Alarm
You can download the update from http://www.kirbyfooty.com/kirby_alarm_pro_update_v4.48b.zip
Just unzip it to your KA folder.
(Don't forget to exit KA first or windows will complain the file is in use)

Hi Ian,

I updated to v4.48b as you suggested but the problem is now much worse.

The problem can't be coming from Outlook because that works fine with all my other mails.

Interesting.
Which method are you using to send the email in KA?
I am using the internal method.

Me too. Perhaps I should switch that to my mail program?

Hmm, then sorry but I have no idea what it maybe.

If you send me an email of the phrase you tried, then I will give it a go to.
When I entered the special characters I had to use the alt keys to generate the characters.

eg
To type accents with ALT codes, hold down the ALT key, then on the numeric keypad type the three or four digits listed here. When you release the ALT key, the character will appear.

a with grave accent
   ?  ALT + 133    ?  ALT + 0192

a with circumflex
   ?  ALT + 131    ?  ALT + 0194

a with tr?ma
   ?  ALT + 132    ?  ALT + 142

a e ligature
   ?  ALT + 145    ?  ALT + 146

c with cedilla
   ?  ALT + 135    ?  ALT + 128

e with acute accent
   ?  ALT + 130    ?  ALT + 144

Email sent Ian.

It won't send Ian. I used ian AT kirbyfooty.com but Outlook says the mail is being rejected.
Do I have the right address?

Well the mail just will not send Ian so here's its content:

Quote
Hi Ian,

Here's the paragraph I attempted to send via KAP:

Commen?ons ? commercialiser ce projet au d?but d'ao?t.
Une fois qu'il a ?t? mis en place, contr?lons nous que la
totalit? des composants soient conformes et sont pr?t ?
livrer.

A bient?t !

ian@kirbyfooty.com was the right email address.

Anyways, I retested getting Kirby Alarm to send the email, but with the same content as you.
It worked ok at my end when using Thunderbird.

I then tested it again, but this time used Outlook to read the email.
It did not work in Outlook.

Attached are screen dumps of the alarm setting, and the resulting email.

To be honest at this stage I do not know what to do.
I don't know if it is a problem with Kirby Alarm, or a problem with Outlook.

Thanks for testing it anyway Ian.
I may be wrong but logic tells me that if I send that mail to myself via Outlook and receive it perfectly then Outlook cannot be the cause.
I don't know much about email but I'm guessing there's something in the way KirbyAlarm sends the mail that Outlook fails to read.
Originally I thought it was the ANSI code used. What about if KAP were to send all mails in Unicode?

Oh yes, and don't forget that when I was using KAP v4.45 the problem was less accentuated because some foreign chars actually worked.
It's only since upgrading to v4.48 that no foreign chars work whatsoever. This kind of suggests the problem is coming from KAP.

I am planning on using a new internal method for sending emails.
Should be ready in about a week.
Hopefully that will fix the problem
