I want to run a program in XP, using the old command.com - the command line will look like this:
"c:windowssystem32command.com /e:32768 /c c:atchmcmoo.bat"

Kirby Alarm won't accept this. Am I missing something, or Huh?

Thanks!!

My guess is the working directory need to be set.

I have attached a couple of screen dumps of how I would set up the alarm.

The first one is using command.com

The second one just calls the batch file

I would be interested in your results.

Thanks
Ian

Super ideas -- neither of them successful! :-(  They both load and run the program, but neither will mount the network drives correctly even though they are there and working. If I simply go to start/run and type c:atchmcmoo.bat everything is perfect. I'm quite baffled!!

BTW, you HAVE shown me the correct way to run a program out of command.com, and for that I thank you! :-)

Further: After several hours of experimenting, I'm baffled. Nothing I can do will make KA run this batch file correctly; it's as though it were running in a shell that hasn't shared all the aspects of the host environment! I d/l'd a program called System Scheduler and while I hate the interface it does exactly what I want, including the timing aspects I mentioned under "requests".

I'm running the 30 day trial version of SS right now, as I just can't work with KA as things are. I'd like to work wth you to fix it, if you've the inclination and can put up with my whining! Smiley

I think you have my email, and I can also work via icq, msn messenger, or gmail messenger. I'm in Vancouver BC, Canada, so the time works against us for real time communicaton!

Thanks -- - Cheers, Dallas

This is just a wild idea, but are you running KA as a service?

If so you need to be careful.
If run as a local system KA will have desktop access but no network access
If run as a custom user, you will have network access, but no desktop access

If you are not KA running as a service then I see no reason why KA should not be able to run the batch file.
In you example you said the batch file was c:atchmcmoo.bat
Is this the correct path?
The reason I mention this is because you have to put quotes around the path name if there are any spaces.
For example: "c:program filesatchmcmoo.bat" must have quotes around it.

That's about all I can think of right now.

I wasn't aware of the "service" limitations, and I'll test that. Here's what I'm running (note that the batch file name has changed, but nothing else:

Later: I think that may have been the problem -- it looks good now! I'll let it run for a while and report again. I must admit, I've never come across a service with those limitations, and didn't take in fully the implications! Thanks!

I am glad you got the batch file working.

With regard to the service limitations I think you will find that is a windows restriction (not kirby alarm)

Me too!! Still slightly baffled as to why it didn't work before.....

I'll have to investigate further - I've not run into problems with other services, but perhaps they simply aren't being asked to access in ways that would cause problems!

Thanks for your help!
