Hello!

Happy New Year!! to everyone.

I have a registered copy of Kirby Alarm Pro, version 4.44.  I have set a number of alarms to be sent via email to my account.  To my knowledge, the emails are not being delivered, and I am not getting any errors to my knowledge. The AlarmLog File shows the alarms being added (Add New Alarm) and the email option being set (Send Email), but nothing else really.

This is the entire reason I purchased Kirby Alarm Pro.  Any ideas will of course be gratefully received.

Hi Joe

A few things come to mind.

(1) There is a bug when sending emails via gmail or your email client. This has been fixed. Can you please download and unzip http://www.kirbyfooty.com/kirbyutils.zip into the kirby alarm pro folder

(2) Have you set up the email preferences properly?

(3) Does the "send test email" button work in the email set up?

(4) Do you have a firewall (or similar) that may be preventing kirby alarm from sending the email.

I would be interested in your results.

Kind regards

Hello Ian,

Happy New Year to all - and may every good deed go unpunished in this new year and the next!!

Thank you for the insights.

Here is where I am gotten to so far:

- I have set the email preferences to use the internal client, and tried another of three different outbound email hosts available to me, changing ports and whatnot as a-testing I go.  (='

- I downloaded the kirbyutils zip file and got about 4 CRC errors on the same number of files. Redownloaded and extracted to the KAP directory w/the same CRC results.

- Loaded Wireshark and monitored for packets during the "Send Test Email" function test . . no packets were detected the first time, and three packets the second time (an ARP request marked "false").  I reloaded a web page to make sure packets were indeed being captured as intended . . affirmative on that.

- During the "Send Test Email" function test, a DOS-style command window opens and closes in the wink of an eye - don't know if that's significant.

Well, that's about it for now. Let me know your thoughts on the matter,

-Joe

Hello Ian,

Some further info:

- I doubt the ARP broadcast has anything to do w/any applications so much as just the networking functions on my computer

- Forgot to mention that I save my test changes and reopen Preferences, as well as just making the changes, before executing a "Send Test Email"

- Several additional attempts yield no packet activity that I can discern, with and w/o the BitDefender firewall software enabled/disabled.

- I did spy an odd SSL-based credentialing interaction on Wireshark between a server and a client - it may have been my Java update scheduler, I don't know, but I killed off that/those processes and tried again - could not reproduce.

- Would normally get some packet action even if the port is being blocked by the ISP - the packet activity would reflect the inability to make contact.

That's strange. I just downloaded and extracted it and it was ok. The zipped file is only 2.9mb so perhaps I can try emailing it to you. Can you please send me an email that I can rely to. My email address is ian@kirbyfooty.com

There have never been any problems with the internal client so this has really got me thinking.
Can you please send me a screen dump of the email settings in KA.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the help and interest.

I have sent you an email requesting the kirbyutils.zip file.

Also forgot to mention that I am using Kirby Alarm Pro LITE.  Very sorry for such a gross oversight!!

Have sent you a file titled, kirbyalarm.gif via email.

Thanks again,

Thanks Ian - that last version of kirbyutils.zip seems to have done the trick.

Appreciate all the help,

-Joe

Excellent.
One of these days I should release a new version of Kirby Alarm I guess.

Thanks for letting me know.
