Hello, just purchased Kirby pro after lots of troubles with scheduler under windows 2003
One of the options i seem to miss is the run once option.
I am setting up a rather large index job and testing the job is not really a option ( every job takes about five hours to complete). So to test i was looking for a run once option. For the time being i am using a 1 day job.

Hi Sed

Thanks very much for the purchase.
I am sorry for being a bit thick here, but I am not familiar with the term "run once" option.
What is it you are trying to achieve?

Do you mean you want the alarm to execute just once at a set date/time and  never repeat?

There is a useful option in Kirby Alarm for conditional execution of the alarm that might be helpful.
It is called the "Watch File" facility.
Using the watch file facility the alarm will only execute IF the watch file (or watch directory) condition is true.
SO... you could set your script to execute ONLY if a given file has changed (you can set various conditions such as the file exists, or does not exist, or the date has changed, or the date time stamp has changed, or the file is greater than an given size etc)
Perhaps that might help if you could somehow integrate your script with the watch file facility.

Kind regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

thanks for your quick response.

Using scheduler under windows 2003 i was used to the runonce  option.
Besides days, weeks months year, there is the option to run a job only once. Your right making it conditional could be an option to.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between the "run once" option in windows and creating an alarm to execute at a set date/time and that never repeats?

in practive theres no difference i guess. Just a little bit more work to set, but thats not really an issue here.
So youre absolutely right, there's no reasson to implement something as "run once". Just as i said before, i was used to see the option.
