The next version of kirby alarm (v4.41) is ready for testing right now. (I only have the user manual to finish <sigh>)

There will be a LITE version of Kirby Alarm pro for just $10.95
The LITE version has all the features of the full version EXCEPT - Backup, FTP, Shutdown, Restart, Logoff & ability to run as a service

The most exciting things in this version are the new icons, and the ability for kirby alarm pro to be run as a service.
That means you do not have to be logged in for kirby alarm to be running.
Very handy!! For example, you could get kirby alarm to reboot your computer at 11pm, do a backup at 11:30pm, and then transfer the compressed backup files to your remote server using FTP at 2:30am for an offsite backup.

There is a fantastic new calendar, a new contacts facility, and loads of other enhancements.

If would like to have a look at it and take part in the testing you can download it from http://www.kirbyfooty.com/kirbyalarmprosetup_v4.41.exe

The changes are...

Quote
1.. New option in preferences to run Kirby Alarm as a service.
2.. Replaced icons on various screens with better looking ones (in my humble opinion anyway)
3.. New LITE version of Kirby Alarm. The LITE version has all the features of the full version except - Backup, FTP, Shutdown, Restart, Logoff &
ability to run as a service
4.. New contacts facility to store name/email address/phone and other contact info. Contacts can be imported from (or exported to) a csv file.
5.. Replace calendar date selector with a much improved option. You can now choose from several calendar types and select from loads of various colour schemes. You can even customise it with your own pictures!
6.. Increased size of the "ToDo" note field from 1000 to 10,000 characters
7.. New more powerful query filter facility on "ToDo" screen.
8.. New button on UpdateAlarms screen to delete the alarm
9.. New option in preferences to set the default colour, font, size, and style for new alarm notes.
10.. New option in preferences to set the colour for the "Green Bar" on browse screens
11.. Do not force a note to be entered unless required. (eg if action is "Say Time" no note is required)
12.. Enhanced entry of watch file size by having Gigabytes, Megabytes, and Kilobytes spin boxes.
13.. New button on main screen and option in tray icon menu to display a calendar
14.. New option when copying a backup alarm to copy the backup parameters as well.
15.. Add maximise icon to add/modify alarm screen
16.. New option in Browse Alarm Log to Query database
17.. Enhance Valid Times on alarm entry to use a drop down list box
18.. Increase performance of backup to zip file
19.. Updated internal method for tray icon menu.
20.. Tray icon now has red line through it when snoozing all alarms

The bug fixes are...

Quote
21.. Fix problem with query settings not being saved when computer is shutdown
22.. Backup to zip file does not remove the original zip file. Instead it now only updates the files that have changed.
23.. Reduce size of alarm update form slightly so it fits on a screen resolution 800x600 with large fonts.
24.. Fix problem with send emails via gmail
25.. Fix problem with windows position. Will now ensure that when the window is opened it is visible on the desktop area. also supports dual monitors)
26.. Fix bug in check if watch file size is greater than an given size.
27.. Fix bug in backup to zip file if more than one include specification for the same folder.
28.. Fix bug. Tooltip of next alarm date/time not being updated when an alarm is deleted.
29.. Fix bug in calculating next alarm time when valid time range is used.
It was resetting the alarm time to valid from time rather than sticking to the recurrence value. eg. Alarm every hour at 9:55 10:55, 11:55 etc valid between 9:00am and 5:00pm On the first day it was correct. On subsequent days it was starting from 9:00 rather than 9:55am
30.. Fix bug if stop snoozing button clicked it was not updating the tray icon tool tip
31.. Fix bug in backup. It was skipping files that did not have an extension
32.. Fix bug in backup. It was crashing when files (or folders) used non ascii characters (eg ?)

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards and God bless
Ian

Hi Ian

As I purchased KirbyAlarm Pro 4.3 a few months ago, I think I may still be able for a free upgrade, right? I just did not find any information on your website about the proper procedure of this kind of upgrade. Shall I just download the file "kirbyalarmprosetup_v4.42.exe" and install it or is there anything else I should take care of?

Kind regards
Georg

Hi

Sorry, for not making it very clear.
There is not a 'pure' update (ie with the changed files only).

Hopefully soon I will be able to build in an automatic update feature into the program.

However, if you just download and install http://www.kirbyfooty.com/kirbyalarmprosetup_v4.42.exe then it will be update your existing version.

It's pretty straight forward.  You won't lose any alarms or anything

Just a couple of things to watch out for..

(1) Exit Kirby Alarm (right click on the tray icon and select exit)
(2) Install the new version into the SAME folder as the original
(3) Do NOT to select to create short cuts in the start menu (they are already there)

Any problems please don't hesitate to contact me,

Kind regards
Ian

PS. I have today found a small problem in the program.. It incorrectly comes up with a warning message when you post an alarm AND the alarm is for one of the advanced features (eg backup, ftp, shutdown etc..)  It does not interfere with the running of it etc. Apart from that the program is a vast improvement on the previous version.
